I'm currently running vsphere 5, vcenter server 5, UMS 5.0 - I've been having issues with staging/patching my hosts via Update Manager (keep getting hung at 33% then the eventual time out and error stating "cannot download patches from the source" etc)
I've been working with vmware support (big time zone difference, trying to do some investigating on my own in between their "on" times) and they've asked me to verify the UMDS version but...it appears that optional component isn't running which, could explain my issues with the shared repository not functioning, Tomcat not having any files to serve up and the like.
I went into the vsphere 5.0 installation bundle and tried to run the umds.exe install file but was met with an error stating that "vsphere update manager download service and vmware vsphere update manager service cannot co-exist on the same system. Please un-install vmware update manager and try again"
I'm not sure how to proceed, I didn't want to spread out the VM process over multiple systems and this seems strange that two services so closely linked and similar in function wouldn't be able to play nice - any ideas?
