Clear specific entry in VUM "Patch Repository"

Hello, Is there any way to clear a specific entry in the VUM Patch repository ? For example, let's imaging there is an online depot added to VUM and there is a bundle downloaded to the local VUM repository. Imagine there was a bug in one of the bundle uploaded in the online repository and had to be removed. However that doesn't reflect in the patch repository as it doesn't look at the existence of this bundle in the online depot once downloaded. However the user can continue using the faulty bundle to multiple ESXi hosts with out knowing that the bundle is removed from the online depot. So the questions are

1. Is the a way VUM "Patch repository" UI page can be made dynamic by constantly looking at the online depots added ?

2. I believe #1 is not possible with the current design of VUM. Is there a way to manually remove an entry from the patch repository ? I can remove the locally downloaded payload and references from the relevant .xml files but that doesn't help in removing the entry from UI.

Thanks,

Krishnaprasad

Hi,

Would like to update my ESXi hosts from 5.1u3 to 5.1u9 using update manager

When running the scheduled task to download the updates the most recent update is 14-06-2016
Test connection at update manager --> configuration --> test connection gives no errors

The following URLs have been successfully accessed:
http://www.vmware.com

Running my vcenter server on server 2008 r2 Enterprise

How can i accomplish to have the latest updates visible in the repository?

VMware update manager - not showing any hosts

Hi Admins,

I have an issue with VMware update Manager in ESXi 6.0 environment.

The configuration is like:

1 Cluster with 3 ESXi 6.0 hosts with HA and DRS enabled

I recently installed the VMware update manager and enabled the plugin on both vsphere client and the web client. However am not able to see any hosts in the update manager console.

The same identical setup is configured on the production site and I can see the hosts under the update manager console there.

Please advise if am missing any configuration.

Steps I tried:

1. Disconnecting and removing hosts from the vsphere client inventory.

2. Re-installing update manager completely.

Please advise.

Thank you

Tools Upgrade from e.g 10.1.7 to 10.1.10 with VUM?

Is it possible to upgrade from one compliant version to another using VUM? The VM is already compliant with with host as is it running 10.1.7 but if we want to harmonize tools version across all VM's, can this be done automatically? It appears that the "Tools upgrade to match host" does nothing to the VM that is already compliant. Or if we want to deploy later a patched version because we hit a problem that has been fixed. How can we do this?

Are there any VSphere tools to simplify Windows Updates on VMs?

That's my question.  I've read there was something called VUM but that it no longer allows updating guests, only the host.

Thanks.

Firewall rules between VMware Update Manager (6.5) and ESXi host

Hello All,

We have VMware vCenter Update Manager (VUM) 6.5 installed on a different server, instead of using vCenter server. There is external Firewall existing in the VMware Infrastructure

Can someone verify what ports need to be open to allow successful communication (Scan for Update, Remediate) between VUM and ESXi host(s)?

Source        Destination       Incoming port/Protocol

========================================

VUM            ESXi_host          80 /TCP (not sure?)

                                               902 /TCP

----------------------------------------------------------------------

ESXi_host   VUM                   80 /TCP

                                               9084 /TCP

                                               9000-9100 /TCP

Any help would be appreciated.

Dell 5.5 to 6.5 Customized Image Errors in Update Manager

I've got a Dell R620 host at 5.5 Update 3b and I'm trying to use Update Manager in VCSA 6.5 Update 1c to upgrade it to ESXi 6.5 Update 1. I've tried the following images but for each of them it reboots the host then at the "About to Install" screen it keeps showing the logs in the attached screenshots then going round in a loop again to get to the same point. I then have to use recovery mode to get back to the old image before it will boot again.

Images I've tried:

VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.5.0.update01-6765664.x86_64-DellEMC_Customized-A04

VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.5.0.update01-6765664.x86_64-DellEMC_Customized-A02

VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.5.0-5310538.x86_64-DellEMC_Customized-A05

Any idea what could be causing this? I can see there's an error on package compliance but it didn't fail the pre-checks in the Web Client or throw any errors there so I'm not sure how to fix it.

Running ESXi 5.5 U3. I updated my patch definitions, did a scan for critical patches. But the latest critical patch I see is from Nov 2017. I don't see the latest Meltdown/Spectre patches released in Jan 2018 (ESXi550-201801401-BG**).

Is this patch not available via Update Manager?

thanks

How to Remove Patches from Update Manager

$

Hi All,

My Update Manager pulled down the patches that have been pulled - the 201801401-BG and 201801402-BG - on teh 9th. I have not applied them. I have an Intel XEON E5-2620 so I am not applying them. Is there any way to remove them from update manager so that I am not going to continue to show non-compliance? Thanks.

"VUM Customer who has already downloaded the patches associated with VMSA-2018-0004 would continue to persist in the VUM depot even after the EP is rolled-back. But, if customer tries to remediate the corresponding patch baseline created against the bulletins of these patches, following error would be encountered - "Cannot download software packages from patch source".

Hello

i am trying to upgrade a cluster of two ESXi hosts from version 6.0U2 to 6.5U1 using vsphere update manager 6.5, but the remediation process is stuck on 21%.

i have tried the remediation on the cluster and on the first server in the cluster, same issue happens.

note: the host is not entering maintenance mode. is there any port that should be open in order to make the communication between the update manager and the ESXi host ?

thank you in advance

Cannot download software packages from patch source, check the events and udpdate manager logs

Hi All,

I have performed a host upgrade of my host from 5.5 o 6.5 using the host upgrade feature in the vpshere client 6.5 and it has completed successfully and then went ahead and updated the "Critical Host Patches" baseline and applied the outstanding patches as well. However I am facing an issues applying the outstanding patches in the "Non Critical Host Patches" baseline. I have like 11 outstanding patches in them and no matter what I try I cant get them to download and in my vpshere client i see the error "Cannot download software packages from patch source, check the events and udpdate manager logs".

I check the esxupdate.log, and tailed the last 20 lines as you can see below.

I cant seem to figure that out. I downloaded and applied the critical patches but not the other baseline...

Any Ideas?

Hi,

I have a newly installed vCenter 6.5 appliance but I can't find VUM anywhere.

The "VMware vSphere Update Manager" service is running and in good health.

I can't find anything with Update Manager in the Client Plug-Ins och vCenter Server Extensions.

Thanks.
