can anyone suggest please , below are VUM logs :

Vmware 6 & Update Manager

Hi all,

I just deployed Update Manager for my Vmware 6 Vcenter server (build 2776510), enabled Update Manager client plug-in, but I still have no Stage or Remediate button in the right mouse button context menu (only Scan and Attach) in the web client.

So I thought to use the standalone client, but when I log in, there's a certificate alert that block everything and I can't go on.

This certificate alert is related to Update Manager :-(

How can I do? I can't access using standalone client anymore :-(

multiple download services for update manager

Hi @all,

we have a vCenter 6 and a good running update manager. Everything is fine - almost.

To the vCenter I have connected some ESXi hosts over a very, very bad WAN. For the daily work the WAN is sufficient. But I'm not able to stage any (bigger) patches or upgrades via the Update Manager to these ESXi's.

Is there a way to install a second download service on site? So that the update mangager does the management but the repository is handeled on a second site.

Thanks !

Vendor Customized ESXi Image and critical patching

Hello.

I would like some advice and guidance on the scenario below...

Scenario:

ESXi Vendor Customized Image installed on hosts

Updates to this customized image are released by the vendor on approx a 6 monthly basis

I would like to capture any critical patch releases by VMware and apply them immediately using vUM (not waiting for the Vendors release)

Question:

Can I apply the critical ESXi patch releases from VMware to the Vendor Customized install safely using vUM? I.E. The update will not over-right or delete any drivers installed by the vendor release?

My preference is to use vUM rather than a command line update if possible.

Thanks for your help!

Update ESXi 5.5 hosts automatically

I have ESXi 5.5 hosts that I would like to update with update manager using the schedule feature.  The issue I have is that we have appliances that run on every host (Trend & Zerto) that are not able to migrate.  The only options with update manager are to either migrate all the vms or power all of them off.  Does anyone know of a solution that we can patch\update our hosts with vms that cannot migrate without shutting off all the other vms on the hosts?

VIM Patch/JRE update not in Update Manager - is this normal?

Hi All, I am using Update Manager. There is a patch released on 7-27 for JRE update -

Download Size:40.9 MB

JRE 1.8.0_131 patch for vCenter Server 6.5. For more information, see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2150220

My update manager does not show this as needed. Do update manager not include these in its checks? Thanks.

While trying to scan a host (ESXi 6.0.0 Update 3 build-5050593) I got a rather cryptic failure message in vCenter (Version 6.0.0 Build 3617395):

Scan entity <name of ESXi host> VMware vSphere Update Manager had an unknown error.

Check the events and log files for details.

Looking in vpxd.log I found this:

Web searches don't reveal anything useful. I don't have AutoDeploy enabled/configured so PXE shouldn't be an issue. There are no firewalls between the hosts and vCenter/VUM. This is the first time using VUM on this instance of vCenter. A fresh reboot of the host didn't help.

Has anyone else encountered this or know what can be done to fix it?

VMware - Update Manager Not Showing Up In vCenter or vSphere Client

I setup a VM with VMware Update Manager from the 5.5 U3 vCenter download.  I'm running vCenter (Applicance) 5.5.0 build 4180647 (which should be vCenter 5.5 U3e).  I've tried installing the plug-in in the vSphere client (5.5.0 build 1993072 and build 4032365) and I click to install the plugin, it says 100% downloaded and then goes right back to being able to click to download again.  It never seems to install.  I've also logged into the vCenter web client and Update Manager isn't there either.

I ran the  VMwareUpdateManagerUtility.exe and re-registered with vCenter by name and by IP, but it still never shows up.

Clients I've tried are Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 and Update Manager is installed on Server 2012 R2.  Help please!

Updates VIB vs Update Manager

$

I found out something recently which I find peculiar.

Update manager is slow.

I am not talking about click click click, select, click click , then hit remediate vs a copy / paste command in shell window..

I am talking when you actually hit 'start', Update manager takes considerably longer.. like 45 minutes vs 10.

If I copy the *.vib to a local datastore then run the esxcli update command it is very quick (ESXi is only 350 Meg) then I reboot host, it reboots it comes up with proper build and that's it.

Update manager takes a long time there is a progress meter, then it takes a while to copy the files (it is equivalent to local storage) then it sits at 21% waiting for host to reboot, that takes a while.. this is AFTER maintenance mode is already set, so it's not waiting for a response from server to confirm VM's are stop, etc..

This is strictly the upgrade process, why is it so much longer via Upgrade manager for the same exactly ISO / VIB file?  Both are from VMware site, nothing special.. I assume ISO is the same as VIB for this part, but maybe not..

Still update manager takes a long time, not only that but if I ping a host to monitor progress it reboots .. twice before it finally comes up and shows done in vCenter console.. I find that odd as well.

VIB only restarts once and doesn't restart again.

I would think that given no special parameters in Update Manager it's just a straight up 'upgrade' no patching no other baselines JUST the upgrade, that's it.  Why is there a discrepancy in the amount of time, anyone else notice this?

can someone help me with this. I am new to UMDS and this is my first attempt to configure it.

How can I install a proxy client certificate on vcsa 6.5?

$

I am running ESXi 6.5 and the vCenter appliance 6.5.  I am working on getting Update Manager to work through our web proxy.  I have Internet access from the VCSA, but I need to pass through a proxy which requires a client certificate for outbound traffic.  With regular Linux/Unix servers, I merely import this into the CA certificates, then the server is able to unlock the door to go out through the Proxy.  So far, I have been unable to get this to work on the VCSA.  Has anyone else encountered this and knows the answer?  My next move will be to setup the Update Manager Download Service (UMDS) elsewhere, and route to there.

UMDS downlod directly into IIS folder

In my environment I have a server 2012 with IIS role  and I created a folder named UMDS in the root directory of IIS.

Now I'm installing UMDS on the same server. and I wish to  configure UMDS to download directly into that folder in order to avoid the UMDS donwload in a folder and the export in another folder on the same server. Is it possible to do it ?

cannot download software packages from patch source

In my environment I have a server 2012 with IIS role  and UMDS .

UMDS download correctly the patches from internet,

I export the patches to the IIS folder

VUM, installed on another server, is configured to download  patches  from IIS and it correctly downloads the definitions.

After creating a baseline, I attach it to one of my host but when I try to remediate it I get:

cannot download software packages from patch source.

It seems that VUM is able to download patch definitions from IIS but it's not able to download the patches.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

Upgrade VMware tools (Complete install) using Update Manager

Hi, i need to install the VMCI driver on all virtual machines in my environments (the default  VMware tools install does not include this driver,  a "complete" install is necessary )

to install VMware tools in complete mode i can individually enter advanced mode and add the necessary  flags according to the following KB:

Installing VMware Tools in a Windows virtual machine (1018377) | VMware KB

it would be nice if i could automate this using update manager   but i don't know how to add these flags in the update manager configuration

is it even possible?

Clear specific entry in VUM "Patch Repository"

$

Hello, Is there any way to clear a specific entry in the VUM Patch repository ? For example, let's imaging there is an online depot added to VUM and there is a bundle downloaded to the local VUM repository. Imagine there was a bug in one of the bundle uploaded in the online repository and had to be removed. However that doesn't reflect in the patch repository as it doesn't look at the existence of this bundle in the online depot once downloaded. However the user can continue using the faulty bundle to multiple ESXi hosts with out knowing that the bundle is removed from the online depot. So the questions are

1. Is the a way VUM "Patch repository" UI page can be made dynamic by constantly looking at the online depots added ?

2. I believe #1 is not possible with the current design of VUM. Is there a way to manually remove an entry from the patch repository ? I can remove the locally downloaded payload and references from the relevant .xml files but that doesn't help in removing the entry from UI.

Thanks,

Krishnaprasad

VMware update manager - not showing any hosts

$

Hi Admins,

I have an issue with VMware update Manager in ESXi 6.0 environment.

The configuration is like:

1 Cluster with 3 ESXi 6.0 hosts with HA and DRS enabled

I recently installed the VMware update manager and enabled the plugin on both vsphere client and the web client. However am not able to see any hosts in the update manager console.

The same identical setup is configured on the production site and I can see the hosts under the update manager console there.

Please advise if am missing any configuration.

Steps I tried:

1. Disconnecting and removing hosts from the vsphere client inventory.

2. Re-installing update manager completely.

Please advise.

Thank you
